Akira Kurosawa (1910 - 98) is
a Japanese director, producer,
screenwriter and editor. In a
career that spanned 57 years,
Kurosawa directed 30 films. He
entered the Japanese film industry
in 1936, during the Second World
War following a brief, unsuccessful
career as a painter. Drunken Angel
(1948), Rashomon (1950), Ikiru
(1952), Seven Samurai (1954)
and Yojimbo (1961) are some of his popular films. He is widely
regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers
in the history of cinema. In 1990, he was given the Oscar
Award for Lifetime Achievement. He was named ‘Asian of the
Century’ posthumously.
